C-USA Basketball: State of Conference USA — February 10th
Another weekend of games in the books and despite Covid, things are still about the same in conference standings.
Another weekend of games in the books and despite Covid, things are still about the same in conference standings.
The East standings haven’t changed much with the Tops unfortunate streak of Covid issues. WKU still lead even without having a game since January 24th.
Old Dominion were able play again and split games with Marshall this past weekend. Surprisingly, MTSU swept Charlotte as the 49ers continue to be the most head-scratching team in the entire conference with wins over WKU and UAB but a D-2 loss and now a losing series against one of the worst teams in C-USA. Go figure.
FIU have now fallen to the bottom of C-USA with a 2–10 conference record. You can tell this team misses the presence of Osaghae and have struggled since they started conference play.
In the West, UAB still have the lead after sweeping UTEP by double digits each game. Louisiana Tech split games with North Texas narrowing the gap for second place. Rice, who started off hot, has fallen off now that they’ve made it deeper into conference play and now sit at .500 along with UTSA.
The Tops should finally have a game this weekend if everything goes well against Rice. I’m really interested to see how the Tops will look after this long dry spell of no games. I hope they will look fresh and well rested instead of ice cold but the Owls are a team I wouldn’t sleep on.
One of the best matchups should be UAB vs Louisiana Tech. This could cause some shake ups atop the West if the Bulldogs can win a game or two.
Another matchup to keep an eye on is Charlotte vs Old Dominion. The 49ers are the most confusing team in C-USA so after getting swept by MTSU, they could split games against one of the best teams in the East because C-USA is gonna do C-USA things.
