Western Kentucky (13–5, 4–1 C-USA) struggled last Saturday against UAB, but got back on track against the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners (3–14, 1–4 C-USA) Thursday morning.
WKU started comparatively slow. Tied at 6–6 after three and a half minutes, WKU splashed in nine straight points and never looked back. WKU increased its lead in each quarter, and actually outscored the Roadrunners more significantly in the second half than the first. The Lady Toppers were up 14 at halftime, yet finished the game outscoring UTSA 37–16 in the second half.
Western Kentucky stifled UTSA defensively. The ‘Runners found the basket on only 20% of their shots and turned the basketball over 25 times.
A straightforward game on the scoreboard, WKU did struggle rebounding the basketball, getting outrebounded by three in total and by nine on the offensive glass. WKU also handed the ball back to UTSA 14 times, many of which were avoidable.
WKU operated with several players in double figures. Freshman sensation Raneem Elgedawy continued her brilliant season, grabbing 14 rebounds to go with her 13 points and five blocks. Ivy Brown (19 points, nine rebounds), Dee Givens (15 points), and Tashia Brown (17 points) joined Raneem in double figures.
In a night of straightforward wins by favorites in Conference USA, the lone upset puts the Lady Toppers back on top of the conference. Lone undefeated UAB was taken down at home by Southern Miss.
