Tonight in Frisco, Texas the Lady Toppers were able to win their second straight Conference USA title and their third in four years against the UAB Blazers with a final score of 72–57.
Tashia Brown was crowned C-USA tournament MVP and led the way for WKU with 25 points while the other Brown (Ivy) scored 11 points and tallied 12 rebounds. Freshman Raneem Elgedawy had a strong game and scored 11 points and had five rebounds but got into foul trouble in the third quarter.
The Lady Tops pretty much had control of this game and kept a 5–8 point lead most of the game and led 42–33 at the half. UAB never went away through most of this game though. The Blazers came out strong in the third quarter and got within one point thanks to Rachael Childress who led the Blazers with 16 points and shot 4 - 13 from downtown but they could never get over the hump and take the lead from WKU. The Lady Tops took total control in the fourth quarter and were able to finish off the Blazers for yet another title
Overall, this was another impressive win for the Lady Tops and gives them some more momentum that will lead them into the NCAA Tournament coming up. Coach Heard has done an incredible job and with the mix of experienced seniors and also talented young players on this year’s team and hopefully they’ll be able to make some noise in this year’s tournament.
