I want to say this upfront because I know it’s going to cause a stir: This is not meant in any way, shape or form to be a political…anything. It’s simply noting that one of the most recognizable people in the country, if not the world, sees how great the Lady Toppers are.
On Wednesday, former United States President Barack Obama released his men’s and women’s NCAA Tournament brackets on Twitter.
If you don’t look very closely, you may miss a very key part of his women’s bracket. So, I’ll help you out.
THAT’S RIGHT!
The former POTUS has spoken, and he sees Michelle Clark-Herd’s squad pulling the upset and beating Oregon State on Saturday.
By my count, WKU is one of seven first-round upsets, and is one of two 11/6 upsets (he also sees Central Michigan beating LSU).
WKU and the former leader of the free world have a bit of a history. If you’ll recall, a fun footnote to the historic comeback against Mississippi Valley State in the 2012 First Four was that the game was played in front of Obama and British Prime Minister, David Cameron.
Clearly, he remembers how fun Hilltopper hoops can be, and thinks there’s something special to this squad.
In previous brackets that Obama has filled out that has contained WKU, he has picked:
2012 Men’s Bracket: Kentucky over, eventually, WKU (kind of a no-brainer)
2013 Men’s Bracket: Kansas over WKU (correct, stupid Jeff Withey)
2014 Women’s Bracket: Baylor over WKU (correct)
2015 Women’s Bracket: WKU over Texas (incorrect)
2017 Women’s Bracket: Ohio State over WKU (correct)
Here’s to hoping the trend of his brackets going against the Tops is bucked.
