It’s really becoming difficult to come up with something to write in a Lady Topper article: Tops win easily, Brown and Brown are good, and they get a little bit of help from everyone else.
Well, let’s throw a little curve ball: Raneem Elgedawy grabbed 23 rebounds tonight, tying a Conference USA record and is the third most rebounds in in a single game in Lady Topper history.
Elgedawy (13 points, 23 rebounds, five blocks) was one of three Lady Toppers with double-doubles on Thursday. Ivy Brown (22 points, 14 rebounds) and Dee Givens (16 points, 10 rebounds) were excellent. In addition to the other three double-doubles, Tashia Brown (23) and Sherry Porter (13) also finished in double-figure scoring totals.
Perhaps even more impressive than WKU’s offense was the defense. WKU outrebounded FIU by 25, held the Panthers to 25 percent shooting, and forced 21 turnovers. The old cliche “play 40 minutes” certainly played out in full for the Lady Toppers. The Lady Toppers increased their lead after each of the four quarters, not allowing more than 17 in any quarter and scoring no less than 19.
News and Notes
Raneem Elgedawy’s 23 rebounds instantly raised her season average to over eight rebounds per game. At 6'4", Raneem is the tallest Lady Topper in the Michelle Clark-Heard era.
With her 14 rebounds, Ivy Brown (15.9 ppg, 10 rpg) is averaging a double-double. If she holds pace, she will be the first Lady Topper since Chastity Gooch (2013-’14) to do so.
Tashia Brown is still on pace to finish with the most points in a single season in WKU history. Tashia needs 402 more points to set the single season record owned by all-time leading scorer Crystal Kelly.
After shooting more than 40 percent in only one of her first five games, Tashia Brown has done so in 10 of the past 11.
WKU’s 101 points are the most scored in a regular season game since a 101–53 victory over North Texas on January 27, 2010.
