Southern Miss put up a huge fight for three quarters, but WKU took complete in the final frame, outscoring the Lady Eagles 26–10 in the fourth quarter en route to an 81–60 victory to move to 2–0 in CUSA play.
In a contest featuring four ties and ten lead changes, Southern Miss came out firing, ahead by as much as seven and leading 21–16 after the first quarter. USM controlled much of the first half, but WKU used a 9–2 spurt at the end of the half to head into the locker room up by five.
The Lady Toppers used huge nights from Tashia Brown (22 points, five rebounds) and Ivy Brown (23 points, eight rebounds) to blitz the Golden Eagles late in the second half.
WKU starts Conference USA play 2–0 against two of the presumed best teams in the conference. The Lady Toppers will finish the weekend tied for first place after the first week of C-USA play.
News and Notes
Tashia Brown continues her assault on Lady Topper records. She has scored no less than 14 in any game this year, and is on pace to reach top ten all-time points status in five more games.
Senior Ivy Brown is also carving out her own legacy. Ivy has reached double figures in each of her past 11 games.
After starting the year hot, Dee Givens cooled off. She finished in double figures Saturday, marking her second of three games finishing with at least ten.
