If you have never heard of Whitney Creech, first, grab a napkin, so when your jaw drops after your reaction to the next step, you won’t drool down your front.
Second, Google (or insert favorite search engine here) her high school stats.
Third, come back to this article and read the rest of what I have to say, because I’ve spent minutes upon painstaking minutes putting this thing together for you.
She’s pretty impressive, huh? For those of you that preferred to just read the rest of the article, which I personally, am fine with, Whitney is Kentucky’s all-time leading high school scorer, male or female. She averaged 42 points per game as a junior, then outdid herself, tallying 50.3 points a game her senior season. I’m not even sure if I scored that many in my church league in one entire season.
All told, Whitney Creech scored 5,527 points in her high school career, making All-District as a 7th grader and not missing a selection throughout the rest of her career. She was All-Region every year in high school.
So Creech came to the Hill at the beginning of last season, and no one knew what to expect. She came from tiny Jenkins, Kentucky, and no one knew whether she would bust on the scene averaging 30, or if she would have to adjust to the college game just like everyone else.
The 5'8" sophomore had issues getting on the court with so many good, experienced players on the 2016–17 version of the Lady Toppers, but when she got out there, she showed that she could play, and she made solid plays and decisions under pressure.
Personally, I’m looking for Whitney Creech to play a significant role this year. Will she score a ton? Maybe she’s ready to step up.
Creech just needs to take the next step in her evolution. Will she be a world beater like she was in high school? There is no question she has massive potential. Anyone who dropped 50 in half of her games her senior year could drop 50 again on the right night.
In each of these articles, I’ve mentioned the need for the Lady Toppers to take the next step: If the Lady Toppers can have five or six legitimate scoring options, they will be incredibly difficult to scout against.
Whitney Creech needs to be one of those options this year. Forget her potential. If the Lady Toppers can have Ivy Brown, Tashia Brown, Sidnee Bopp, Whitney Creech, and one or two others step up and be solid, Michelle Clark-Herd’s squad is going to be difficult to keep up with.
The picture is coming together for the Lady Toppers. What do you think of the roster? Are they ready to take the next step, or is there a piece or two missing? Who are you most excited to see in 2017–18? Let us know in a comment below, via Twitter at @TheTowelRackWKU or on our Facebookpage.
