WKU Lady Topper redshirt sophomore Dee Givens busted onto the college scene two years ago, looking like a bonafide sharp shooter with potential to be an all-time great. She averaged nearly six points a game and shot over 35% from the three point line in only 12 minutes a game.
Fast forward to last year, when she looked sluggish and disinterested, and it seemed she had been benched. It turns out she had a season-ending injury, and the vacant expression was just her wishing she could be out there playing ball. Even in her eight ball games in only 60 total minutes of action, she managed to score 35 points.
Dee was granted a medical redshirt in 2017, so she returns as a sophomore on the court. When you watch Dee Givens, she is clearly a gifted athlete, and her shot is absolutely perfect leaving her hand. When she’s on, she could take over a game from behind the arc.
The Lady Toppers have been undersized for quite some time, and a lethal shooter off the bench would have made them unstoppable last year. This year, Michelle Clark-Heard’s squad actually has significant size at most positions, so Dee could provide even more explosiveness either off of the bench, or as one of the last starters.
If Dee Givens could stay healthy, she could develop into a female Ty Rogers. That wouldn’t be a bad career trajectory for her.
If I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: The Lady Toppers are absolutely loaded, and we haven’t even covered the newcomers yet.
