Before we get going, a quick note about how today’s report is being formatted. Normally, we do a “stock,” report, where we discuss things that are “rising” and “falling,” to denote good or bad things.
Today, that wording feels inappropriate because we are going to discuss the damage that was sustained at the athletics facilities in Ruston, Louisiana on Louisiana Tech’s campus.
With that out of the way, lets talk good things first.
Good
WKU at the Draft
Yesterday we talked about how it was unlikely we’d hear a Hilltopper get their name called during the first round of the NFL Draft, if at all.
Well, we didn’t realize we’d get a Topper sighting when the hometown Titans made an appearance. Before the Titans picked, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell brought with him 13 high school football captains who play in Davidson County.
One of them happened to be incoming freshman Travares Springer.
Second C-USAer to take the stage that night.
The first was Mean Joe Green, who read the Steelers pick after they traded up at 10.
Bad
Louisiana Tech storm damage
If for some reason you haven’t heard, a severe storm went through the southwest part of the country and in its path was Louisiana Tech.
The Monroe News-Star’s (and friend of the blog) Cory Diaz captured the devastation.
His timeline is full of videos and pictures of it all and also of players helping to clear the rubble.
This is oddly pertinent to WKU because the Lady Tops were set to take on the Techsters in Ruston this weekend for La Tech’s senior day. That series has been moved to ULM’s campus.
A disaster relief fund has been set up to help the school and community of Ruston, if you’re feeling generous.
