Baseball offense
Yesterday we gave grief to the Tops’ pitching staff, and rightfully so. But it isn’t all bad on the diamond, as the Tops’ offense put on a great display yesterday in their 8–7 win against Belmont.
WKU knocked eight hits, scored four runs in the third and was able to rally for two runs in the ninth (thanks, mostly, to a four-run ninth given up by the pitching staff. But again, we’ve already gone over those woes).
You’ve seen us gush on Twitter over Jake Sanford, but yesterday was the first game he hasn’t logged a hit since 3/24 against FIU (nine games) and, in all but one of those games, he had knocked at least two. He did, however, draw four walks, and is in the middle of a 16-game on-base streak. Not bad.

For a second straight day, we are telling you to buy into the Tops for the 2019/20 season.
Mid-Major Madness has included the Tops in their Other Top 25 way-too-early rankings, coming in at #21.
I won't include the write-up, you’ll have to give MMM the click to see it, but this ranking is even predicated on the fact that Bassey is leaving (which…well, we’ll wait to discuss that). It’s not a bad first couple of days for the offseason for the Tops.

Hsu on the Hill
With good comes, unfortunately, some bad.
WKU assistant coach Marc Hsu has been rumored to be interested in other coaching positions (Nebraska) for a while, and on Monday, ZagsBlog floated his name as one that could take over as an assistant with St. John’s. While that is unlikely because their head coach Chris Mullen has since resigned this shows his remaining days in Bowling Green are probably short.

Hsu is incredibly talented at what he does and his clock started ticking since he was brought on by Stansbury but it’ll still be a bit of a bummer to lose him if he does in fact leave.
WKU’s Linebacking Corps
Yesterday, our own Matt McCay took a look at the implications of what Eli Brown’s foot injury means to the Hilltoppers, especially on defense.

While we still have a ways to go until the start of the 2019 season, as it stands, the two most possible replacements for Brown are both FCS transfers in Clay Davis (Tennessee Tech) and Damon Lowe (Eastern Kentucky). If not them, it’ll probably be a player new to the position altogether.
