Former Western Kentucky big man Ben Lawson has garnered an invitation to this summer’s NBA Summer League with the Memphis Grizzlies, according to an Instagram post from @TeamGSA_.
Lawson averaged 4.4 points and 3.1 rebounds across his 110-game WKU career, including a career-best senior season in 2016/17 in which he logged 3.3 rebounds and 5.3 points per outing.
However, Lawson has flourished overseas as a pro. This past season, playing with Fukuoka Rizing, he averaged 15 points, 10.5 boards and 1.7 blocks in 44 games. He finished in the top five on the team in each of those categories, as well as in steals (1.2) and minutes (34.6).
Lawson is the second confirmed Hilltopper to be playing this summer in the summer league, along with Darius Thompson, who announced that he’d be competing stateside this summer after it was announced he won MVP honors of the Dutch Basketball League.
Memphis and Lawson will be competing in the three-day Salt Lake City Summer League from July 1–3, along with the Jazz, Cavilers and Spurs. The Grizz will also be playing in the Las Vegas Summer League, which begins on July 6.
