For the second time in his stint as a professional football player, former Hilltopper wide receiver Cameron Echols-Luper has signed a deal with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League.
This marks CEL’s second stint with the TiCats, after signing with the team midway through the 2018 season, but was released in September, spending his whole month and a half on Hamilton’s practice squad.
Echols-Luper finished his collegiate career logging just one season on Hill in 2017, logging 43 catches for 473 yards and four touchdowns.
Other players the TiCats signed include former Northwestern WR Rashad Lawrence, a TiCats re-signee who caught 17 balls for 131 yards in 10 games; former Grambling State quarterback DeVante Kincade, who also spent time on Hamilton’s practice squad in 2018, and former Old Dominion running back Ray Lawry, who spent parts of 2018 with Cincinnati and Kansas City.
CEL is the second Hilltopper currently in the CFL, along with Jonathan Dowling, who saw a promotion to first-team with the Toronto Argonauts a season ago.
Hamilton finished the 2018 season 8–10, finishing second in the East and dismantled the BC Lions, 48–8, in the semi-final playoff round before falling to Ottawa in the Eastern Conference Final.
