Former WKU tight end Deon Yelder received some good news today as he was promoted from the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad to the 53-man roster.
Yelder was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New Orleans Saints and was added to their practice squad. He was said to have done well in practice but never really received any playing time in the preseason and was let go in September before being picked up by the Chiefs.
Kansas City is deep at tight end with the likes of Travis Kelce but by being on the 53-man roster, Yelder may actually get his first real chance of playing in the NFL under head coach Andy Reid. The Chiefs have been the team to beat in the AFC this year leading the conference with a solid 6–1 record.
By being promoted to the roster, Yelder is now the eighth active WKU player added to a 53-man roster this season along with Forrest Lamp, George Fant, Taywan Taylor, Tyler Higbee, Jack Doyle, Joel Iyiegbuniwe, and Mike White.
