WKU football alum Cameron Echols-Luper (or as we, along with others, call him CEL) has signed a contract with the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Echols-Luper signed as an undrafted free agent with the Colts this past spring.
The star wideout drifted about the college seas before ending his career on the Hill with 43 catches for 473 yards and four touchdowns last season alone.
He was an experienced and vital player to help fill the void left behind by Taywan Taylor and he made some big, and also memorable, plays (such as when he miraculously held on to the ball for a touchdown despite losing his helmet against ODU which spawned one of my favorite WKU football images)
Canada will be in for a real treat with the addition of this new ProTopper.
It’s also worth noting that Hamilton is in the same province as Toronto which is where fellow (although from a several years ago) ProTopper Jonathan Dowling currently plays. That’s a receiver-dimeback matchup that will definitely be fun for us WKU folk to watch out for.
CEL has waited a while for the chance to play pro football and I definitely believe he’ll make the most of this opportunity, hopefully in spectacular fashion.
The Ticats are 2–4 this season, and are fresh off a 21–15 loss to the Ottawa Redblacks. It hasn’t been determined if CEL will be added to the active roster or will be sent to the practice squad.
