With the NFL Draft on the horizon, the final touches on everyone’s mock drafts and big boards are coming and, with that, predictions for where five former Hilltoppers will land as they try to grow the landscape of former WKUers in the NFL.
Pro Football Focus has released its Big Board 3.0, and along with it, predictions for where five former Toppers are headed:
27th overall to Kansas City — Forrest Lamp (ranked the PFF #1 guard on the board)
84th overall (Rd. 3, Pick 20) to Tampa Bay — Taywan Taylor (ranked the PFF #7 wide receiver on the board)
159th overall (Rd. 5, Pick 15) to Baltimore — Omarius Bryant (ranked #19 at his position)
223rd overall (Rd. 7, Pick 5) to Miami — Keith Brown (ranked #15 at his position)
246th overall (Rd. 7, Pick 28) to Dallas — Max Halpin (ranked #7 at his positoin)
No surprise here that Lamp is expectd to go late in the first round, and it’s actually kind of odd that of all the mocks or big boards I’ve come across (not that I’m spending countless hours scouring over every single one that’s published) there’s no real concensus on Lamp — just that he’ll go somewhere in the mid-to late 20’s to a team that was most likely pretty solid last year.
I didn’t realize how much people actually were liking Taywan Taylor until I heard the Harris Football Podcast from last week that broke down the receivers, and the guest on the pod (which, I highly recommend listning too — my favorite fantasy, or any, football podcast) talked about how he’s a borderline Top 5 receiver in the class, but some teams are weary about certain aspects of his game. Listen to the pod, trust me. It’s around the 20 minute mark.

Also, it’s cool to see three teams — Tampa, Baltimore and Miami — be in play to land a former Topper, because they have a history with WKU players. Bobby Rainey spent time on the Ravens practice squad and played a handful of downs with them before becoming a regular with the Bucs, and of course, Brandon Doughty spent his first pro year in Miami.
It’s also just exciting to see some new blood when it comes to ProToppers — KC and Dallas don’t have a current ProTop, and you won’t hear me complain if they acquire one.
What do you think of the PFF Big Board 3.0? Is there anywhere you want to see Lamp, Taylor or any of the others go come Draft Weekend? Let us know in a comment below or on twitter @TheTowelRackWKU.
