On Thursday, news broke that former Hilltopper second baseman Steven Kraft had signed a pro deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Kraft played four years for the Tops and hit a career .321 with 10 home runs and 78 RBI. This past year, the Virginia native slashed .382/.483/.494 (all career bests) with a pair of home runs and 33 RBI.
Kraft is the fourth Hilltopper to sign a pro contract in 2018, following Ben Morrison and Jacob Rhinesmith (who were selected in the draft) and Ryan Thurston (who signed a UDFA contract).
Kraft should be reporting somewhere sooner rather than later, as the short-season leagues started prior to this past weekend.
