#ProTops: NFL Week One Update
Recapping former how former Hilltoppers performed in Week 1.
The 2021 NFL regular season lived up to its full potential this weekend. From stadiums opening back to full capacity to wild upsets, our #ProTops were right in the middle of the action. Let’s get Week One started.
Taywan Taylor was released by the Houston Texans.
Jordan Meredith has been waived by the Los Angeles Rams.
Dionte Ruffin has been waived by the Chicago Bears.
Devon Key remains on the practice squad for the Kansas City Chiefs.
After being waived by the Tennessee Titans, Deon Yelder has found a landing spot with the defending Super Bowl champs, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was inactive during their win over the Dallas Cowboys game on Thursday night.
Jack Doyle caught three passes for 21 yards in the Indianapolis Colts 28–16 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Under the Zach Wilson era, the New York Jets started 0–1. The Carolina Panthers won 19–14. George Fant got the start at the right tackle position and by all accounts, it was a pretty rough day. He was the lowest-graded offensive lineman with a PFF score of 48.9.
With Mekhi Becton being sidelined with an injury for up to six weeks, Fant’s job is about to improve as he will be starting at left tackle for the time being.
Mike White did not play in Sunday’s game.
On the first Sunday night football of the game, we were treated to our first dual #ProTops matchup of the season. The Chicago Bears traveled to Los Angeles to play the Rams. Matthew Stafford did not disappoint with his debut in LA. Tyler Higbee played a pretty productive part in the night’s events. He caught five receptions for 68 yards.
Joel Iyiegbuniwe was inactive on Sunday night due to an injury.
Closing the week on Monday Night Football, the Las Vegas Raiders hosted the Baltimore Ravens. Another Hilltopper Football alumni made his second season debut on the Raiders coaching staff.
