#ProTops Notebook: Miller Starting To Heat Up, Carter’s Season Is Nearly Here
Anderson Miller didn’t have a hot start to his 2018 season.

Anderson Miller didn’t have a hot start to his 2018 season.
As recently as April 23, he was hitting .170 and was potentially in danger of getting sent down to Single-A (this is purely conjecture on my part, but it’s hard to justify keeping a fringe prospect up who is performing that poorly).
But, luckily for him, things have turned around. Since that April 23 mark, Miller is hitting .290, to raise his average to .218 on the year (still not ideal, but better than .170 for sure), even having an average as high as .239 (that’s more like it).
In that same stretch, Miller compiled three hit games (which, over a nine-game stretch, isn’t bad) along with six total strikeouts.
Miller still isn’t being super productive in terms of run production (or, rather, RBI production, but a sabermetric-head will tell you it’s an outdated stat anyway, and if you can point me to some minor league advanced stats, please do), but getting his average out of the .170’s is the first battle.
The season for Kes Carter is nearly here, as the season for the St. Paul Saints of the independent American Association will open their season later this month on Friday, April 18.
Carter enters his third year in independent ball, and his second (first full) with St. Paul, after hitting .271/.365/.475 with them last year, to accompany his nine home runs and 32 RBI.
The Saints’ roster is interesting, and also features Justin O’Conner (former Bowling Green Hot Rod) as well as a couple of notable names that I recognize from my years working in minor league baseball (Dante Bichette, Jr., Jayce Boyd). The Winnipeg Goldeneyes have won back to back titles, but the Saints could very well make a run for the title in 2018.
We still haven’t heard from Andrew Edwards, who is still listed as being on the Naturals’ DL, nor Danny Hudzina, who I believe is in extended spring training still.
Quick Tashia Brown update! Or, rather, I’d have one for you if there was anything to update. The NY Liberty digital team hasn’t been great about posting stuff from training camp (at least, compared to the videos and photos posted by my Atlanta Dream), but NY did sign a nine-year WNBA vet in Marissa Coleman earlier this week, who is listed as a guard/forward combo. I guess the assumption is she’ll be on the final 12-player roster, so that can’t be good for Tashia’s chances of making the squad.
Hopefully she defies the odds and does, though.
