Only one ProTopper was victorious on Sunday, and that’s because he was playing another ProTopper (Tyler Higbee’s Rams demolished Jack Doyle’s Colts).
It’s on to Week 2 in the NFL, and let’s see what our ProTops have facing them. Spoiler alert: We don’t have a Topper v. Topper matchup, and Archie is going to get laid.
Jack Doyle, Indianapolis Colts (vs. Arizona Cardinals, Sun. at 12 p.m.)
The big takeaway after week one, arguably, was how much a dumpster fire the Colts are, at the very least, until Andrew Luck returns from a shoulder injury. And they looked every bit the dumpster fire in a 46–9 loss to the Rams to open the season.
Doyle, despite the Colts’ putrid day, had a nice statistical performance, catching a pair of passes for 41 yards (and helping earn me a handful of fantasy points).
Unfortunately, I don’t think things will get better for Indy, but Doyle has been one of the few consistencies for the club over the years, so if he continues to see any sort of workload with the ball, he’ll make things happen.
Taywan Taylor, Tennessee Titans (at Jacksonville Jaguars, Sun. at 12 p.m.)
Taywan was targeted just twice in his professional debut, but did catch both targets and accumulated 14 yards.
If it wasn’t voiced in the preseason, it’s pretty apparent now — Tennessee has a lot of weapons on offense, and Taywan isn’t just battling mainstays like Delanie Walker, Eric Decker and even guys like DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry, but also a fellow rookie in Corey Davis, who was trusted with the most targets.
All of this is a long way to say that a good season for Taywan may look like one where he averages two catches a game and is hovering around 15 to 20 yards.
The Titans take on a division opponent on Sunday in Jacksonville.
Tyler Higbee, Los Angeles Rams (vs. Washington Redskins, Sun. at 3:25 p.m.)
If there was a theme to ProTops Week 1, it was the Two Reception Club. Higbee was targeted three times and hauled in a pair of catches for 17 yards in the 37-point win over Indy.
The offensive line seems to be a tad better than last year, and that bodes well for Jared Goff and, in extension, Higbee. However, much like Taywan, there are a lot of weapons (either established or emerging) for the Rams, so Higbee may be lucky to average three to four catches for 25-ish yards. But hey, dems the breaks.
