After being taken in the 18th round by the Washington Nationals, former Hilltopper Jacob Rhinesmith has taken a liking to playing professional ball.
Although he’s just two weeks worth of games into his pro career with the short-season Auburn Doubledays, Rhinesmith is already making a name for himself. Of players who have played eight or more games, he leads the team with a .340 batting average through 13 games and has the most Auburn hits through the same time span this season.
People around the Nats system are also taking notice of his hot start, as he got a shoutout during the Nats’ game last night.
Rhinesmith has an active five-game hitting streak, has hits in eight of his first 14 games and has five multi-hit games.
Yes, it’s very early in his pro career, but it’s exciting to see him get off to such a hot start. Who knows, he may be playing alongside Bryce Harper in the nation’s capital one day. (Or, better yet, the guy who follows Harper after he’s signed elsewhere. Maybe Atlanta?)
