You: Oh gosh, The Towel Rack is really updating us on former Hilltoppers in the Arena Football League?
Us: YEAH BUDDY, WE SURE ARE.
The Arena Football League is far from what it used to be, back in the days when it was a near 30-team league and had weekly doubleheaders on NBC on Sunday afternoons, but the product is still entertaining as hell and we have three former Hilltoppers to keep track of at the outset of the 2019 campaign.
Jared Dangerfield, Washington Valor (at Baltimore Brigade, Fri. at 6Â p.m.)
Dangerfield enters 2019 as a reigning champion after the two win Valor beat Baltimore in last year’s ArenaBowl. Well, it’s a championship game rematch and Dangerfield and the Valor look to open 2019 the same way they closed 2018.
Dangerfield finished last year third on the squad in receiving with 35 receptions for 382 yards and four touchdowns but last year’s leading receiver Reggie Gray is no longer on the roster, which could mean more opportunities for Jared.
Antwane Grant, Atlantic City Blackjacks at Josh Holderfield, Philadelphia Soul (Saturday at 2:30Â p.m.)
Antwane Grant has himself a new club after being cut in the early stages of last year’s CFL season by the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He’ll make his AFL debut with one of the league’s newest teams in Atlanta City (who joined the league along with the Columbus Destroyers, who while technically new, is a rebirth of a previous iteration of the team).
On to opposing bench is Josh Holderfield, a name that, I must admit, I don’t at all recognize. However, he won't see the field as he’s listed on Philly’s IR.
