#ProTops: Three Toppers Make NFL 53-Man Rosters

The roster deadline has come and gone in the NFL, and three former Hilltoppers will be active members of their team’s 53-man roster.
Jack Doyle (Indianapolis), Tyler Higbee (Los Angeles Rams) and Taywan Taylor (Tennessee Titans) have all survived training camp, the preseason and now the roster cuts and are members of the 2017 NFL season.
The following are all of the players who did not make the roster cuts:
Darrell Williams, Jr. — Waived by San Fransisco
Tyler Ferguson — Waived by Tennessee
Omarius Bryant — Waived by Los Angeles Rams
Brandon Doughty — Waived by Miami
Steve Donatell — Waived by Seattle
Bobby Rainey — Had contract terminated by Baltimore
Prince Chalres Iworah — Placed on San Fransisco’s injured reserve
While a bummer that only three Toppers made the cut (it would be at least two more if Forrest Lamp and George Fant hadn’t suffered season-ending injuries in training camp or the preseason), there’s a silver lining — for everyone except Rainey, there’s the option to either 1.) rejoin their club’s practice squad or 2.) sign with another team and be placed on their practice squad.
Rainey, if he is to find a new home, will have to sign another contract with a team before they decide what to do with them.
Just like in your fantasy football league, each player has to clear waivers in order to return in whatever capacity with their team.
Anyway, congrats to the three who made the 53-man rosters, especially Taywan who does so for the first time in his career, and we wish those who didn’t (yet) the best of luck. We’ll be keeping a close eye on them to see who goes where and who gets a call up.
What do you think of the roster cuts? Did anyone surprise you? (Although, if you’re a regular reader of The Towel Rack, none of them should have.) Let us know in a comment below, via Twitter at @TheTowelRackWKU or on our Facebook page.
