Hello friends. We’re down to the wire in closing another month in the National Football League. As of November 25th, teams are continuing to compete for playoff contention within their respective conferences. A few of our Hilltopper alums are in some of those teams which make for some interesting narratives in the upcoming weeks. Here’s how they have fared in Week 12.
Captain Jack Doyle and the Colts started the week off on Thursday Night Football against AFC South rivals, the Texans. At least one of these teams would not only have the divisional lead but improve their record to 7–4. Unfortunately, it did not go the Colts way as they lost 20–17 and drop to 6–5. Doyle had 3 receptions for 28 yards in the loss. He was targeted four times from Jacoby Brissett.
Jack’s chances for an increase of reps now falls solely on his shoulders as the team announced on Monday that Eric Ebron is heading to injured reserve, facing a procedure on both of his ankles. This ends his season after a previous breakout 2018 campaign. Be on the lookout for more of Doyle as the Colts will move on & do everything they can for a playoff spot. He is also expected to be a free agent going into 2020. Here’s hoping that he can either solidify a place in “The Horseshoe” or add to his resume for potential suitors next season.
Taywan Taylor did not see any special teams action during the Browns rout of the Dolphins, 41–24. They’re holding on for wild card hops as they improve to 5–6.
Mike White is still on the practice squad for the Jets.
Deon Yelder and the Chiefs were on a bye week. They’re sitting pretty above the AFC West at 7–4. They’re back in action next week vs their rivals, the Raiders.
Joel Iyiegbuniwe had 17 special teams snaps in the Bears 19–14 win over the Giants. Look for him to be on national television as Chicago will travel to Detroit on Thanksgiving day for a divisional showdown with The Lions. Both teams are fighting NFC North playoff implications in week 13.
George Fant and the Seahawks kept their outstanding season rolling as they went on the road to face the Eagles. Shuffling in and out with fellow offensive tackle Duane Brown, Fant ended the game with 22 offensive snap counts and even was in three special teams plays. This was his 11th game this season for the Hawks. Also, he continues to be photogenic as his quarterback (and best buddy) Russell Wilson included him and other teammates into a hype video just hours before kickoff. This was a fun parody of the opening theme song for “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” as “The Gang Went To Philly”. Here’s the clip below:
The team improves to 9–2, following a 17–9 victory. They’re still neck and neck with current NFC West division leaders, the 49ers.
To close out the week, another NFC West team with a Tight End U alum was in a prime time matchup. Tyler Higbee and the Rams spent their Monday Night Football appearance battling the Ravens on the potential MVP favorite Lamar Jackson tour in Los Angeles. He had five receptions for 20 yards. The Rams lost 45–6, falling to 6–5 on the year.
Stay tuned for more news as the season winds down. Happy Thanksgiving to all & PROOOOOOO TOPS!!!!!!
