Starting on Christmas Day, the NFL stretched out numerous games to be played in Week 16. This made for a lot of close wins and spoiling losses as teams are fighting for playoff positions. Let’s dive in and see how our Hilltopper football alumni fared in this week’s festivities:
Starting on Sunday, the Colts traveled to Pittsburgh for an AFC conference battle against the Steelers. Jack Doyle caught four receptions for 50 yards being a crucial third-down target. The Colts lost the game 28–24, knocking them back one spot in the wild card race. They still have the AFC South division tie.
The Browns kept hope alive for their postseason plans as they played the Jets. Even though Taywan Taylor is on injured reserve, the Browns were thin at wide receivers due to injuries and COVID-19 protocols. The Jets remained on a roll as they upset the Browns 23–16, just one week after getting their first win of 2020. Mike White remains on the practice squad. George Fant started on the offensive line and played 70 snaps during the victory.
The Chiefs escaped an upset from the Falcons on a last-second field goal miss. They remain atop of the AFC after a 17–14 win. Deon Yelder caught one pass for 12 yards. He played 12 snaps between offense and special teams.
The Bears kept their playoff chances alive after blowing out the Jaguars 41–17. Joel Iyiegbuniwe made two solo tackles & played 32 total snaps.
Romeo Crennel and the Texans tasted defeat in what seems to be a forgettable season in Houston. In a gracious effort, the Bengals won the game 37–31.
Later Sunday afternoon on the West Coast, the Chargers played the Broncos in an AFC West rivalry game. The Bolts squeaked by 19–16, picking up their 6th win on the season. Forrest Lamp started on the offensive line and played a total of 62 snap counts.
The Rams & Seahawks were on primetime for an NFC West tussle. The Hawks’ slowed down the Rams offense as they suffered a 20–9 loss, putting them in a tight spot for the wild card race. Tyler Higbee caught three receptions for 34 yards.
We’ve got one week of the regular season remaining. Stay tuned for the last regular season update before the playoffs.
