The final two weeks of the 2019 National Football League continued with some last-minute playoff implications. Between the tight race in the NFC West and players ending their season healthy, it was an entertaining one, to say the least. Let’s dive into the pre-Christmas shenanigans.
Saturday started Week 16 off with a tripleheader of game action. The night finale included Tyler Higbee and the Rams. At this point, they are still 3rd in the NFC West. A wild card spot would be the target to save their season. However, this included a divisional battle with the leaders, The 49ers. For a fourth straight game, Higs went for over 100 receiving yards as Jared Goff continues to click with the tight end. In a thrilling last-minute drive by The Niners, the Rams lost the game 34–31, ending their playoff hopes for 2019. They’re third in the NFC West.
Higbee did finish the game with nine receptions for 104 yards. This is a historic feat as he is the first tight end in Rams history to have four straight 100 yard games. On the season, he has 61 catches, 650 yards, and two touchdowns.
Moving on to Sunday, Mike White’s Jets were victorious over the Steelers. He still remains on the practice squad. They are 6–9, remaining at 3rd place in the AFC East.
Taywan Taylor’s Browns lost to the Ravens on Sunday as well, dropping to a 6–9 record. They are also in third place in the AFC North. Taylor didn’t play yet again and hasn’t seen action since week 4.
George Fant and The Seattle Seahawks traveled to Arizona to take to the Cardinals. He played in 24 offensive snaps as well as 5 special teams sanps. The Hawks were upset in the desert, 27–13. They will play for the NFC West crown next Sunday night in primetime.
Jack Doyle and the Colts took on the Panthers. It was a slow but eventful day in the office for Capt. Jack. He was the target of a dirty hit by defensive lineman Vernon Butler. Let’s just say he’s not a favorite after this one.
Good news, he’s A-okay. Earlier in the year, he was the subject of a juvenile targeting call from being hit by Vontaze Burfict. He did have two catches for 17 yards. The Colts snapped a losing streak, finally entering the win column with a 38–6 victory over the Panthers. Doyle has 42 receptions, 442 yards, and four touchdowns in 2019.
The Bears and The Chiefs squared off on Sunday Night Football for the bragging rights between the midwestern teams. This could’ve been a potential Pro Tops battle for a few purposes. Deon Yelder remained on the injury report nursing his ankle. Joel Iyiegbuniwe played 18 special teams snaps. The Chiefs won 26–3.
One more week (sadly) to go for the 2019 regular season. Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays from my family to yours. Also, #PROOOOOOOTOPS!!
