With the possibility of a Week 18 for the 2020 Season, this created some interesting schedule changes for all 32 NFL teams. Some of these notable changes impacted our Pro Tops this past couple of weeks and resulted in growing some much-needed action for our alums. Let’s dive into the Week 6 recap.
Due to last Tuesday’s game between the Titans & Bills, there was no Thursday Night Football in Week 6. This move was part of the recent schedule changes due to the various Covid-19 cases throughout the league.
Beginning on Sunday:
Jack Doyle and the Colts faced the Bengals in Indianapolis on Sunday afternoon. Capt. Jack was the proud recipient of a go-ahead touchdown throw from Phillip Rivers in the 4th quarter of the game.
The Colts were able to successfully beat the Bengals 31–27. He finished the game with three receptions for 29 yards. While these are not ideal numbers as of late, Doyle continues to stay in the mix as a valuable piece of the Colts tight end rotation.
The Bears extended their hot start of the season to 5–1 after beating the Panthers 23–16. Joel Iyiegbuniwe played 22 total snap counts, mostly on special teams.
The Browns fell to division rivals Steelers 38–7. On the bright side, Taywan Taylor was (finally) active for the Dawgs in the throttling loss. He played on offense for 10 snap counts. This is huge for Taylor, especially as he makes his case to stay active for an injury strapped Cleveland ball club.
The misfortunes for the Jets kept on piling coming into Sunday. They are now the only winless team this season for the NFL. They fell to the Dolphins 24–0. Mike White remains on the roster as a backup quarterback to Joe Flacco. George Fant tallied for 72 total snaps in the loss.
Forrest Lamp and the Chargers were on a bye week.
Sunday Night Football was treated to an NFC West showdown between the Rams and 49ers. Tyler Higbee started to get back in the swing as a pivotal weapon for the Rams offense. Unfortunately, his team fell short as the Niners pulled off the primetime win 23–16. Higs finished with 3 catches for 56 yards. His longest reception went for 31 yards.
On a rare Monday afternoon game, the Chiefs and Bills faced off in upstate New York as each team was fighting for their gift win. This went in favor of the defending Super Bowl champs as they defeated the Bills, 26–17. Deon Yelder was active in the early Monday action.
For our #ProTops coaches:
Romeo Crennel, the interim head coach for the Texans, encountered his first loss for his season. They fell to division rivals Titans in a very thrilling 44–38 overtime loss. Despite the shortcomings compared to his inspiring win last week, the Texans are making the right straights in improving after the departure of former head coach Bill O’Brien.
Last but not least, a former Hiltopper coach & fan favorite will get his shot at the head coaching ranks. Nick Holt, a defensive coordinator in the Jeff Brohm era (WKU, Purdue) has signed a deal to be a head coach in the FIDAF (Italian Division 2 of American Football). The Varese Skorpions inked a deal with Holts, making him their new coach for 2021 after finishing 7–3 in the previous season.
