We’re rapidly approaching the midway point of the 2019 NFL season, here’s how our beloved former Hilltoppers have fared during week 7 and an update on their individual seasons to date.
Jack Doyle continues to be involved in the passing attack for the Colts as they cruised into first place of the AFC South as they beat the Texans in a divisional battle. He was targeted five times and made three catches for 21 yards. He is still an ongoing option for Colts offense as he is sharing his tight end duties with Eric Ebron. Currently, he has 17 receptions with 149 yards and one receiving touchdown to his credit on the year.
Tyler Higbee only had one catch for eight yards as the Rams picked up a road win against the struggling Falcons in Atlanta. The victory snapped a 3 game losing streak. Look for him to be called upon more as they look ahead to a London, England located game on Sunday against the winless Bengals. On the season Higbee has 17 catches for 162 yards and a touchdown for the 4–3 Rams.
Forrest Lamp was in action during the Chargers showdown with the Titans in Nashville. However, his presence was short-lived as he suffered an ankle injury during the second quarter of play. He has carted off the field and examined shortly after the play, which included a knockdown on QB Phillip Rivers. It was reported that it was an ankle injury. Monday afternoon, the news was confirmed that Lamp is out for the season.
Lamp’s injury is another blow to an already injury-plagued Chargers ball club. This is a brutal blow for the third-year offensive guard as he returned from an ACL tear that caused him to miss the entire 2017 season. Last year he appeared in two games outside of being a healthy scratch and yesterday’s start was his second in two weeks. Best of luck to Forrest in his recovery. Let’s hope he gets some luck in the future.
George Fant started in his third game of the year at left tackle for the Seahawks in their loss at home to the Ravens. He was in at all 72 snap counts for the offense.
Joel Iyiegbuniwe did not see any action in the Bears loss to the Saints but has made an appearance in five games of the season on significant special teams action. He has two tackles on the season.
Deon Yelder was on special teams during the Chiefs win over the Broncos on Thursday night. He also caught two receptions for 43 yards earlier this season in Week 4 against the Lions.
Taywan Taylor is listed as a kick returner for the Browns as they were on their bye this week. He has appeared in three games this year after being traded to Cleveland from the Titans. He has returned three kicks for an average of 17.7 yards per return.
Mike White is listed on the practice squad for the Jets. He was picked up onto the roster this season after being waived by the Cowboys.
Elsewhere: in the CFL:
Deandre Farris has found success as a defensive back for the Ottawa Redblacks. He has played in 12 games.
Jonathan Dowling is playing defensive back for the Toronto Argonauts. He has appeared in four games totaling 17 tackles but hasn’t appeared in a game since September 20th.
Cam Echols-Luper is on the BC Lions practice squad
Also, Andrew Jackson was drafted by the Houston Roughnecks in the XFL draft last week.
