There’s a running theme in today’s NFL that proves itself to ring true every single year. Some of the best football is played when the days become shorter. As we’re at the halfway mark of the 2020 NFL season, some of the teams are focusing their sights on the Vince Lombardi Trophy in February. These teams also include our beloved Hilltopper football alumni. Let’s take a journey into week number 8.
The Los Angeles Rams kicked off Sunday afternoon with a trip to South Florida, courtesy of the host team Miami Dolphins. The sunny day turned into a nightmare as the Rams were throttled 28–17. Tyler Higbee had another week of shortened output as he was only targeted four times. He did catch two receptions for 14 yards, with his longest reception going for 13.
Fans were also treated to another duo #ProTops matchup, this time between the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets. Sadly, one team had to lose and for the eighth straight week, it went towards the Jets. Deon Yelder was the recipient of the victory as his Chiefs won the contest 35–9. Yelder caught one reception for 5 yards as he split snap counts with various tight ends.
George Fant made his seventh start of the season on the offensive line & played all 57 snaps. Mike White was inactive.
The Indianapolis Colts made the short trek to Detroit to take on the Lions. Capt. Jack Doyle made one more addition to his lengthy highlight reel as he caught a touchdown for the Colts. This was a seven-yard pass from Philip Rivers.
He finished the day with two receptions for 18 yards. The Colts were victorious 41–21.
Taywan Taylor played three offensive snaps in the Cleveland Browns 16–6 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Los Angeles Chargers were embroiled in a competitive showdown against fellow AFC West rivals, the Denver Broncos. Forrest Lamp made his seventh start of the year at offensive guard. He also played 93 snap counts on both offense and special teams. Despite the exciting action of both teams, the Chargers fell short 31–30. This adds another frustrating close loss this season for the Bolts.
The Chicago Bears played at home against the NFC South juggernauts, New Orleans Saints. Joel Iyiegbuniwe tallied for 27 snap counts on special teams and recorded a solo tackle in the Bears overtime loss 26–23.
In Coaching News:
Romeo Crennel and the Houston Texans were on a bye week. They will be back in action next week in Jacksonville versus the Jaguars.
