The roles have reversed on the Hill.

As we approach the spring, excitement abounds for the future of the WKU football team: Another gun-slinging QB has been brought in, there’s a division title to defend and we’ll get another taste to see if Tyson Helton truly is the G5’s King of the Portal (trademark pending).

All of that is happening while a feeling of apathy is starting to set in for some (and I’d suspect many) supporters of the WKU basketball program: Not only did the Tops not go dancing - again - but they failed to win a game in Frisco this year, furthering the frustrations of the current leadership. Plus, with program-mainstay Josh Anderson exiting, the future is murky, with some talented players returning, but not a lot of immediate excitement to look forward to with a bit of a slowed-down recruiting train.

Or, at least, that’s how I see things. And that’s the beauty of college athletics - and sports in general - you may see things differently. You may even see things both similarly and differently.

You might not be a fan of the way Helton has been constructing the roster year to year, relying on the portal and under-utilized talent rather than building a stable, long-haul base.

You may think Rick Stansbury is on the cusp of something huge in Diddle, and that this year is a blip in what will be a run of tournament (NCAA or NIT) success.

You may think one and not the other. You may think something totally different.

And, if any of the above apply to you - or even if it’s something I haven’t yet mentioned - I hope we have your attention.

We are looking to add to our writing staff here at The Towel Rack as we say goodbye to 2021/22 and get rev’d up for the 2022/23 campaign.

Experience is preferred but far from needed. All you need is a love for the Hilltoppers and an ability and desire to share your thoughts with the world.

We’re looking for folks of all stripes with all types of opinions to cover a wide array of topics: Yes, football and basketball is our bread and butter, but we don’t have as much recruiting coverage as I’d like. We can’t get to a ton of the “Olympic” sports, especially the Lady Tops - soccer, volleyball and softball - who each set the world ablaze this past season.
