Oh, hello again. Nice to be talking to you.
No, I’m not doing my Elliot Alderson impression, just merely reintroducing myself after nearly a week (actually, more than a week) of not having new stuff for your eyes to gander at on The Towel Rack. And for that, I appologize.
Alright, enough of that. Lets get down to brass tacks.
The Hilltoppers, fresh off their second-most lopsided win in their still brief FBS history, will look to move to 2–0 in Conference USA play as they begin a two-game road trip in Ruston to take on the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.
The good news about this matchup is the Tops won the most recent meeting — last year’s season opener at Smith Stadium (the same game the Tops lost Leon Allen).
The bad news about this matchup is the Tops were absolutely dismantled the last time the played pigskin at La. Tech in that 59–10 Bulldog W.
But, things are different. For both sides. You know of the changes the Tops have undergone, while Tech has lost a key member of it’s high powered offense with Kenneth Dixon joining the ranks of #ProTechsters (I have no clue if that’s a thing) as the main departure.
It should be a well contested football match. So, lets dive into the Three Thangz about La Tech.
1.) They hate hate HATE referring to anything other than the Women’s Basketball team as the “Techsters.”
It isn’t so much that they hate reffering to it, they’re just very protective about keeping it to that one team. Which is a shame, because it’s a great nickname. Can you imagine using “Hilltoppers” for just the baseball team? The La Tech fans may hate it, but I’ll keep on keepin on with its usage, because I love it. However, I will say, the Lady Techsters logo is very, very good.
2.) La Tech has also already begun its conference schedule, and is 1–1 so far
Two weeks ago, the Techsters fell in Murfreesboro by four points, but saw over 500 yards passing for Ryan Higgins while Trent Taylor hauled 210 receiving yards and two scores on 17 catches. The Bulldogs are most recently coming off a 28–7 win over UTEP, where running back Jarred Craft did most of the damage, rushing for 146 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown to accompany a 191 yard passing day for Higgins with two touchdowns. Taylor also logged 121 receiving yards on 10 catches.
3.) The Bulldogs are allowing just under 30 points per game
29.8 to be exact, and that lands them tied for 80th in the country. We are at the point in the season, and La Tech has played consistently enough, to where these numbers can be used for a fair prediction. Just saying — in every game this year, outside of Bama, the Tops have scored at least 30 points a game.
