Larissa Franklin went 2-for-4 from the plate and scored once as Team Canada shutout Team Mexico, 4–0, on the first day of Olympic softball competition.
Franklin singled in the bottom of the first inning on a bunt single as the second hitter of the game for Canada and came in to score on a Jennifer Salling RBI single for the second run of the game for the Canucks, giving them a 2–0 lead after one.
She also reached on a fielder’s choice in the second and singled to lead off the bottom of the sixth.
Canada moves to 1–0 in the Olympic tournament and will face the U.S.A. Wednesday night (Thursday morning in Tokyo). The US blanked Italy, 2–0, to open competition.
