Topper Today: August 27, 2018
Welcome one, welcome all to our newest feature here on the Towel Rack, something I’m cleverly calling “Topper Today.”
Welcome one, welcome all to our newest feature here on the Towel Rack, something I’m cleverly calling “Topper Today.”
I have to be honest; I am blatantly stealing this idea from the Herald Sun newspaper in Melbourne, Australia, who do an “AFL Daily” running blog every day to keep up with all of the news of the Australian Football League.
So, that’ll be our aim here. I want to promise you certain types of content each day, and there will be some for sure, but what it is remains to be seen. They say you can’t predict the news.
Although, as the season continues, there will be things to predict; media availability, CUSA weekly awards and the like.
So, the aim here is to keep up with everything around WKU and CUSA in a timely manner. Sometimes we’ll write other articles to expand on some news, and other times it’ll just live here.
Without further adieu, welcome to our experiment! We hope you like it.
5:30 p.m. ET: TJ Price’s Lakeland Magic have unveiled their 2018/19 schedule today, too!
This year we’ll do a much better job of covering him since, you know, we’ll know he plays before their playoff series.
2:15 p.m. ET: It may be week one for college football, but we know now the full 2018/19 slate for the Hilltopper basketball squad.
My immediate reaction is closing the non-conference schedule at home against Saint Mary’s and Wisconsin back-to-back is going to set up the conference schedule nicely before the Tops open the CUSA slate with Charlotte, ODU and Marshall. This’ll be a battle-tested club that’ll be ready for conference play.
And, who knows, wins against Washington, in the Myrtle Beach Invitational and strong showings (if not victories) against the aforementioned Gaels and Badgers could put the Tops in tourney contention early.

1:40 p.m. ET: Sanford’s first presser of the year is done, and here are the highlights and some analysis, if you’re into that.
12:30 p.m. ET: Game week means coach availability! Chad Bishop, the classy man he is, has a Facebook Live available as Mike Sanford breaks down the Wisconsin game.
11:30 a.m. ET: You know it’s game week when it’s DEPTH CHART TIME!

10 a.m. ET: The new line is out for WKU/Wisconsin and…it aint pretty.
The good news, if there is any, is the Tops total W/L over/under has improved to about 5.5. So…?
8 a.m. ET: While not technically a “today,” story, everyone is on campus and accounted for for the Hilltopper basketball team.
There had been some concern over Dalano Banton not being on campus for some of the summer, but he was playing in prospect showcases in Canada for a large chunk of it. But, he’s on the Hill so there’s no need to fret!
