Good morning and welcome to our second installment of Topper Today! Our first installment, yesterday, went far better than I could have hoped, and a lot of that is due to a busier-than-usual WKU news day.
We had our first depth chart of the season, Mike Sanford’s first availability with the media and the Topper basketball schedule releasing, among other smaller nuggets like the Wisconsin line, TJ Price’s G-League squad annoucing their schedule and the like.
And honestly, that’s the idea of this. Yes, we as a site love to write up the news and help be apart of giving it to you long form, but sometimes an interesting fact or tidbit is just that and doesn’t need a whole lot of explanation. This is the place those stories will live.
So, as we continue, all I ask is that you keep either this story or our site close by and are checking every so often as so you’re not missing anything.
And, if we miss something, feel free to let us know!
Alright, let’s start Tuesday (Primary day for me here in Florida! It’s going to be a long day/night)!
9:35 p.m. ET: Miss any of the Lady Topper action? We have you covered.

7 p.m. ET: The new video board at Diddle is…something!
I think I like that new floor design, although I’m not a fan of the smaller towel.
Also, I hate when it points that way, but that’s another topic for another day.
5:10 p.m. ET: WDRB has their staff predictions for the Hilltoppers and the best prediction is 6–6.
Take all of that as you will.
4:35 p.m. ET: The Lady Toppers are taking the Court today for the first time this semester!
I’m increasingly curious as to what the Lady Tops will look like under Collins.
2 p.m. ET: Louisville wide receiver Collin Miller has announced he’s transferring to the Hill.
We’ll have more in Miller’s transfer later on the site.
11:40 a.m. ET: How much are we to read into preseason snap counts?
Music City Miracles, the SBNation Titans blog, thought it was interesting that despite being ahead of him on the depth chart, Taywan Taylor is getting less snaps along side Marcus Mariota, despite having an outstanding fall camp, than Tajae Sharpe is.
He [Taylor] showed just what he can do with the ball in his hands in preseason week 2 against the Buccaneers when he took a screen pass for a long touchdown. With that, the rise of Taywan Taylor was on. People were even talking about him in fantasy football circles.
The problem there, however, is that in that came Taylor only played 1 snap with Marcus Mariota while Tajae Sharpe played 10 (of 12). This past week in Pittsburgh Mariota played 19 snaps. Sharpe was in on 12 of those while Taylor was only in on 7.
Some of the conversation in the comments to the story offered the explanation that the Titans coaching staff is simply interested in how Sharpe looks over Taywan, since Taylor is a lock for the roster and Sharpe may be more of a question mark.
I’m also not too concerned — if he starts seeing less snaps or targets to Sharpe in the regular season, then I’ll start to worry, but for now, I think this is partly a product of thinking out loud (which, especially for a sports blog, is by no way, shape or form a bad/disparageable thing) and trying to meet the SBN story per day count/trying to keep up with the demand for content as the preseason grinds to a halt.
11:10 a.m. ET: Happy volleyball home opener, everyone!
The Lady Toppers will help debut a new floor design and new video boards as they host Belmont.

It wasn’t a great opening weekend for the Lady Toppers, who went 1–2 in their season-opening tournament in Charleston, S.C., dropping matches to Alabama and College of Charleston to open the year, but did bounce back to beat Missouri State.
On the line tonight is a 19–0 record against the Bruins and a 23-match home winning streak.
If you’ll be in attendance and want to write a guest-post recap for us, slide into our DM’s and lets discuss.
8 a.m. ET: I think we’ll kick each day off with a story that isn’t technically from today, but is a fun jumping off point for the day. So far, we are two-for-two, and hopefully we’ll be able to find at least one thing every day.
Today, our tidbit comes from Field Gulls, the Seattle Seahawks SBNation site, who did a fun math problem when they figured out there are only 20 players left on their roster from the 2016 playoff team.
One of those names?
None other, than our own George Fant.
