Day three of Topper Today and we are going strong!
I said it yesterday and I’ll say it again, I hope you are enjoying this little feature we are putting together. As always, let us know what changes you’d like to see made to help improve your experience.
Now that all of that boring stuff is out of the way, lets get to the news of the day.
6:20 p.m. ET: In news that isn’t huge news even though it sounds like it’s huge news, Charles Bassey has been cleared by the NCAA.
6 p.m. ET: This weekend is NFL roster cut down day, and if the Redskins are thinking similarly to Hogs Haven’s Mark Tyler, Prince Charles Iworah will not make the cut in the nation’s capital.
Redskins Final 53-Man Roster Predictions
The Redskins have been through training camp and three preseason games to date. We have heard many reports out of camp…www.hogshaven.com
However, if that is in fact the case, it wouldn’t be incredibly surprising.
As noted when he signed with Washington back in late July, PCI was seen as mostly a depth signing for camp bodies. The way HH made it sound when he first came aboard was that he wouldn’t make it this far, so that’s…better than nothing!
That’s also not to say he wouldn’t be a good candidate for the ‘Skins (or anyone else) to land a practice squad spot.
PCI played 11 snaps for Washington in their first game of the preseason, nine in the second week and 15 this past week against Denver, with three special teams appearances.
4 p.m. ET: Our pals with Moonshine Throwdown have the Week 1 preview on their Shiner Sitdown podcast.
3:30 p.m. ET: The season hasn’t even started yet, but Charles Bassey is picking up steam in basketball circles again.
The article itself is kind of whatever, but it’s just a reminder as to how powerful having a Top 10 player in the country can be (WKU wasn’t being talked about by national hoops writers in August two years ago).
1:30 p.m. ET: A bit of a slower day than the last two days, but that’s fine! We’ll certainly get our fill of Toppers over the next two days as the countdown to kickoff comes ever closer.
Speaking of, The Athletic’s Jesse Temple ran a mailbag today about the Badgers ahead of the matchup against the Chrome Domes, and a question was posed about the Tops.
Wisconsin Mailbag: Which game on the 2018 schedule should...
It's been a long offseason since Wisconsin's football team celebrated into the warm Florida night with a giant trophy…theathletic.com
Q: What’s a strength that Western Kentucky has/weakness Wisconsin has that could possibly be worrisome to the Badgers this week?
A: One aspect of Wisconsin’s season opener against Western Kentucky that intrigues me is how the Badgers’ relatively young defense will handle the Hilltoppers’ offensive tempo. Last season, Western Kentucky ran 968 total plays in 13 games, or 74.5 plays per game. Meanwhile, Wisconsin’s opponents ran 831 plays in 14 games, or 59.4 plays per game…If Western Kentucky quarterback Drew Eckels has the time to throw, he’ll likely test Wisconsin’s defensive backs to see how prepared they are for the moment.
8 a.m. ET: Yesterday, we told you about the Lady Topper basketball team taking the court for their first practice of the year, but a point made by the Bowling Green Daily News’ Elliott Pratt was a good one, that new signee Myriah Noodel-Haywood is on the Hill.
Noodel-Haywood is a three-star prospect of the 2018 class, per ESPNW, and was listed as the 28th best guard in the class.
She was originally a Kansas State commit, but is now on the Hill. Can’t wait to see her on the floor.
