WKU Basketball: Anderson Served One Game Suspension, Murray Suspended Indefinitely

About 30 minutes before the Hilltoppers were set to start their second exhibition game against Kentucky Wesleyan, we learned what the fallout was of Josh Anderson’s public disorderly conduct arrest from earlier in the week; a one-game suspension against KWC.
Ah, but those of you who are bright saw the kicker there — there’s also another name on that list. A pretty big name for WKU’s hopes to have a successful season.
That is in Desean Murray.
Brad Stephens of the Bowling Green Daily News reports that Murray was cited for marijuana possession on Friday, much like Taveion Hollingsworth was prior to the first exhibition game earlier this week.
The most interesting there is Murray’s suspension being listed as “indefinitely,” when just a couple of days ago it was a one-game suspension for Taveion.
The reasoning could be two-fold:
Murray being a grad-transfer is looked to as a leader of a team that is still quite young and Stansbury wont tolerate that from a leader
After Taveion’s incident, Stans talked to the team, told them there was a new flat-out policy and Murray went and broke it anyway
Or both.
Regardless, Murray’s suspension is undoubtedly a big blow to the Hilltoppers, especially with a Top 25 opponent to open the schedule. If Saturday’s starting lineup is any indication, Marek Nelson may be the man slotted into the starting lineup while Murray is out, but that remains to be seen obviously.
We also don’t know if Murray will, in fact, miss the Washington game.
Long story short, three suspensions in the week before the season started is not the ideal way to begin a year many thought would see the Hilltoppers land on the cusp of a national ranking and a trip to the big dance.
