On Wednesday, it was reported by FanRag’s Jon Rothstein that former Auburn forward Desean Murray has committed to WKU.
Murray himself was quick to confirm the report.
Murray played one year with the Tigers, averaging 10.1 points and 6.7 rebounds a night for Auburn in what was arguably their best season in school history under Bruce Pearl. He announced his plans to leave Auburn a couple of weeks ago.
Before heading to the Plains, Murray played for two years with Presbyterian College and averaged 18.4 points across two seasons to accompany his 7.7 rebounds.
Listed at 6'5", he’s certainly a smaller body to be playing down low, but seems to be a nice piece to add with the loss of Justin Johnson and Dwight Coleby.
The more I think about Murray coming to WKU, the more excited I get. Before Murray, the WKU frontcourt was going to look very young — Moustapha Diagne and Mareek Nelson in their second year, Jared Savage after a year sitting out and incomers with true freshman Jeremiah Gambrell, Galen Smith and Dalano Banton and JUCO’s Matthew Horton and Trevelin Queen coming in.
And yes, there’ll still be a learning curve, but just the sheer numbers of guys that can play down low compared to last year is huge, and the amount of talent that, on paper, is assembled here. It could be one of the best frontcourts in the league, if not the country.
