With the Conference USA regular season in the rear view mirror and it being tournament week time, the conference unveiled their annual end-of-year awards, which was headlined by a certain big man in Red and White.
WKU center Charles Bassey found his name on three of the post-regular season honors, bringing home First Team All-CUSA, All-Defense and All-Freshman honors.
Bassey is the first Hilltopper freshman to be named to an all-conference first team since 1954–55 when Ralph Crosthwaite was named to the All-Ohio Valley Conference Team.
He’s also the first freshman to be named to any sort of all-conference selection since Derrick Gordon was named to the Sun Belt’s Third-Team in 2011–12.
Finally, Bassey is the first freshman to make the C-USA First-Team since Rice’s Marcus Evans was named that in 2016 and is the ninth overall.
A member of the All-Freshman team last year, Taveion Hollingsworth was also honored, being named to the conference’s Third-Team.
The Hilltoppers have time off until this Thursday when they open the C-USA tournament as the #2 seed, where they’ll take on the winner between FIU and North Texas on Wednesday. Tip off for both games is set for 8:30 p.m. CT.
