We’re just around 40 days until the start of college basketball season, but we’re still far enough away where lists are driving the offseason content.
However, we’re close enough to have lists with specific focuses on the season at hand, and that’s exactly what FanSided’s Busting Brackets did with their look at the top 10 mid-major recruits for the coming season.
NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Top 10 mid-major recruits for 2018-19
The college basketball landscape is becoming quite competitive all-around, especially on the mid-major circuit. The…bustingbrackets.com
And, wouldn’t you know it, two Hilltoppers landed in the carousel!
Dalono Banton (#7) and Charles Bassey (#1) were expected to be immediate impact-players for the Toppers and it’s cool to see someone from outside of HIlltopper-land say that they’re not only premium C-USA players, but premium players on the national landscape.
On Banton, Busting Brackets laments,
With Banton, they’ll be loaded in the backcourt under Coach Stansbury for 2018–19. Banton’s growth could go a long way in carrying this team to the NCAA Tournament, although he won’t be the only player to keep an eye on their roster.
And when it comes to Bassey, they say,
He finished as the sixth overall prospect in the 2018 recruiting class before it was all said and done. The 6-foot-10, 240-pound big man will be looked to dominate the paint in Conference USA play. He averaged 19.3 points, 11.4 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game at Aspire Basketball Academy (KY) in 2017–18.
After going 14–4 in 2017–18 in conference play, repeating as regular season champions shouldn’t be too difficult for the Hilltoppers. They’ll just need to seal the deal with a bid to the 2019 NCAA Tournament, something that is highly likely with Bassey and fellow teammate Dalano Banton in the backcourt.
Honestly, neither write up is super impressive or in depth, but it is nice to see them make the national cut.
Hoops season is almost here, yall.
