On Friday, the Basketball Hall of Fame announced Charles Bassey as one of their five finalists for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award for best center in the NCAA.
The 6’11" freshman has averaged 15 points and 9.9 rebounds per game this season along with 2.4 blocks go with it. Bassey has been dominating in his freshman campaign on the Hill including a great performance against fellow finalist Ethan Happ of Wisconsin, where Bassey finished with 19 points, six rebounds and four blocks as he held Happ to 9–23 shooting from the floor.
This is a very prestigious award for Bassey to be named a finalist for. Hilltopper legend Jim McDaniels was an NCAA All-American but since the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar award has only been around since 2015, it makes Bassey the first Hilltopper to be named a finalist.
The award will be announced in Los Angeles on April 12th along with the other Naismith Starting Five players. You can vote for Charles Bassey as well as the other Naismith Starting five by clicking here. You have to validate an email after voting and can vote only once per day.
