What was already a big recruiting day on the Hill got even bigger when it was announced that former Northern Kentucky forward Carson Williams was transferring to WKU.
Williams is a former Mr. Kentucky Basketball out of Owen County High School and has been one of the NKU’s top contributor’s during each of his seasons averaging 10.8 points and 5.9 rebounds during his freshman year leading the Norse to the NCAA tournament during their first year they were eligible for the big dance.
Against Kentucky in the NCAA tournament, Williams went off for 21 points and nine rebounds as the Norse hung tough in a nine point defeat.
During his sophomore season this year, Williams led the Norse to a regular season Horizon League Championship before being upset by former WKU coach Dennis Felton’s Cleveland State Vikings in the conference tournament. During his sophomore season, Williams was third in the Norse in scoring averaging, 12 points a game to go along with 5.6 rebounds. Williams is more of a small forward/power forward combo and has a game that’s pretty similar to Justin Johnson, though he only took 19 three pointers on the season (shooting 37%).
Williams will have to sit out the 2018–19 season and will be eligible in the fall of 2019 and will have two years of eligibility left. With Williams and Murray coming on board, WKU now has 14 players for 13 scholarships if Lamonte Bearden comes back after being an early entry into the NBA Draft.
We’ll have to wait and see how the roster shakes out over the coming months. With it only being April there could be a lot of moves yet to be determined. Regardless of what happens next, Williams brings a proven veteran to an already stacked roster. Here’s a video to get to know the newest Hilltopper.
