What a win last night for the Tops. They erased a seven point second half deficit and forced UAB into a nearly four and a half minute scoring drought to close out the game.
But, it’s now time to turn our attention to the Blue Raiders, who suffered their first conference loss of the season to Marshall on Thursday.
As if MT needed any extra motivation.
So, what are the four big questions as we look ahead to tomorrow night?
How will MT respond?
The Blue Raiders fell 73–63 last night in Huntington, and shot just 40.3% from the floor in the process. You know Kermit Davis and his squad are going to not only want to avenge a conference loss, but also play spoiler to WKU’s Cinderella season so far.
How will WKU respond?
The Tops are coming off an emotional win, and sure it benefits them being at home and not having to worry about travel from last night’s final buzzer to tomorrow night’s tip off, but will they have enough in the tank to combat the anger MT is going to come out with?
I’m going to assume yes — the soldout Diddle crowd will be more than enough to give the Tops any energy that they might be lacking — but it very well could be a “thing,” as the kids say.
Can anyone stop Dwight Coleby?
Coleby has been an absolute beast in conference play so far. He’s averaging 14.6 points in his last five games and has finished in double figure scoring in four of those games, and has logged double-doubles in three of those games.
He scored 17 points last night and had 10 against Charlotte a week ago.
Yes, Justin Johnson is (correctly) perceived as the difference maker down low, but Coleby is playing near unstoppable basketball right now, and if MT can’t contain one big man, there’s no way in hell they’ll stop two.
Home court cooking for Anderson?
Josh Anderson looked real good last night, and hit five of his seven shots from the floor and totaled 12 points and three rebounds. Not bad for his Diddle debut.
Since his duck at Old Dominion, JA has steadily improved — nine second half points in Charlotte and the dozen last night. If he continues his trajectory, we’ll be in for a 15 (hopefully more) point performance for the young man.
