Despite committing to WKU back on April 20th, 4-Star point guard Jordan Rawls reclassification hadn’t been announced by WKU Basketball like other recent additions Kenny Cooper & Camron Justice. That all changed on Thursday afternoon as information began to trickle in that he was on the WKU campus.
Rawls himself confirmed it on Twitter during Thursday afternoon
Finally at 3:54 central time, WKU made it official, welcoming him to the 2019–20 team
The addition of Rawls is huge for WKU. After losing senior point guard Lamonte Bearden to graduation and backups Dalano Banton & Jake Ohmer to transfer, WKU had to bring in a young point guard to fill the much needed minutes at the position. Rawls is now officially the point guard of the future moving forward.
He was a top 70 player according to 247 Sports with offers from several P5 programs including Tennessee, Auburn, and Iowa. He continues the trend of Stansbury using the lure of graduating early to get top talent on the Hill (Charles Bassey, Marek Nelson, Dalano Banton just to name a few).
With Rawls officially in the fold, WKU’s point guard cupboard won’t be bare this season while we’re still waiting to see if Lipscomb transfer Kenny Cooper will be declared eligible by the NCAA. Should Cooper get cleared, Rawls will get ease into the role of point guard if not WKU has a highly talented player to grow into the starting job. Either way, WKU is in a lot better shape than they were before today.
With the addition of Rawls, WKU is now at 14 scholarship players. Be on the lookout for Stansbury to work his magic with one moving to academic scholarship, walk-on status or transfer out (hopefully not). Here is where the 2019–20 roster officially stands after the news today:
