After waiting for what feels like an eternity, we now know the Hilltoppers’ full schedule for the upcoming basketball season.
After waiting for what feels like an eternity, we now know the Hilltoppers’ full schedule for the upcoming basketball season.
The Tops will start the season November 25th at the Golden Window Classic in Lincoln, Nebraska. While their opponents aren’t announced yet, the field consists of Nebraska, LSU, Saint Louis, Northern Iowa, San Francisco, Nevada, and Illinois State.
After that, they will travel closer to home to play in the Wade Houston Tip-off Classic in Louisville. The Tops will play Little Rock, the Cards, and Prairie View A&M.
Once they play these two tournaments they will get four home games in a row to finish out their non-conference schedule with Campbellsville, Rhode Island, Tennessee Tech, and Mississippi Valley State. Most fans probably recognize Mississippi Valley State after the Tops miraculously came back in an ugly game (attended by President Obama and the British prime minister at the time) in the first round of 2012 NCAA Tournament.
C-USA play will look different this year due to COVID-19. They will play the same team back to back in the same gym in order to limit travel and the Tops will travel to Charlotte, Marshall (once), Middle Tennessee, FAU, and North Texas and will host Louisiana Tech, Marshall (once), Old Dominion, Rice, and FIU.
Overall, I think it’s a pretty solid schedule to have after all the changes that had to be made due to the current times we’re living in. The two non-conference tournaments at the beginning of the season should excite Hilltopper fans with some potential resume building games.
At this point, I’m just glad to see some basketball after the way things abruptly ended in Frisco in March. We’re only a few weeks away from finally having some Hilltopper basketball so be sure to stay tuned and follow us for more articles and updates as the season begins!
