This year’s Hilltopper Hysteria was great. Seeing the Lady Tops and the Fella Tops for the first time this season gave me, along with everyone else, a small taste of how both teams will be this year. Let’s start with the Lady Tops.
Matt talked about his takeaways from the Lady Tops’ scrimmage, so I’ll give you the lowdown on the guys: The White Team beat the Red Team, 52–38, and I was initially impressed with their scoring. There wasn’t as much defense in the scrimmage, but there were plenty of dunks. That made me pleased, although I’m still kinda bitter they didn’t have an actual dunk competition in Hysteria this year, but the scrimmage more than made up for it.
Josh Anderson is who stood out to me the most. With him being the highest ranked recruit to come to WKU in the modern era of recruiting, he’s going to have a lot of eyes on him this year and I believe he’ll shine. He scored 14 points for the White Team while Dwight Colby scored 20.
Justin Johnson looked solid, as always, in the paint and as one player who has stuck with WKU the past four years, he will be the main leader this year.
WKU won’t be as deep in their bench this season but all of the players that will be eligible to play this year will be able to make a big impact in the game, which is hard not to like.
The guard depth is great, but the front court is very thin with only three players that are truly forwards and no real center (something the Tops really haven’t had, sans Ben Lawson, over the last several years). A lot of younger players but extremely talented nonetheless on this year’s team and if they can click early on, look for WKU basketball to return to its glorious, winning days.
