As if there wasn’t enough excitement surround the Hilltopper basketball program with Hilltopper Hysteria set for Thursday night, hours before the festivities began WKU found themselves atop the Conference USA preseason poll.
The occasion marks the first time the Tops have been selected as preseason favorites since joining the conference. The last time they were picked to win their conference was the 2013/14 season, who went 21–11 overall and finished behind only Georgia State in the regular season standings.
Two Hilltoppers also found their way onto the Preseason All-Conference team in Taveion Hollingsworth and Desean Murray.
While, yes it is preseason and you don’t raise banners for preseason honors, it’s still an important step for the Hilltoppers and something fun to keep us occupied until the season beings.
It’s also stark at how top heavy the coaches think the league is — only WKU and Marshall received votes, and only three teams landed multiple players on the All-Conference team in the Tops, Herd and ODU, who was picked to finish third.
On Wednesday, the Lady Toppers were picked to finish fourth in the conference and were shutout of the Preseason All-Conference team.
