Monday morning, the WKU news week began with a big one as Mr. This Is March himself tweeted (later confirmed by Chad Bishop) the Hilltoppers will be the opening game of the season for the Washington Huskies in Seattle.
Washington went 23–13 last season, including a 10–8 mark in conference play and made it to the second round of the NIT — falling to Saint Mary’s to see their season come to a close.
While Rothstein notes how good the RPI game is for UDub, it’s also not too shabby for the Tops.
While he says it’ll serve as Washington’s season opener, I’m assuming it’ll double as the Tops’ season opener as well.
It also builds upon what continues to be strong non-con schedule for the Hilltoppers which includes Arkansas, Wisconsin, Indiana State, Austin Peay, Belmont, Missouri State and the aforementioned Gaels.
The Bowling Green Daily News’ Brad Stephens is also reporting the Tops have added UT-Martin to their schedule, set for a Nov. 10 matchup. He also, basically, confirms the Huskies’ game will open the year for WKU.
