The Tops and Herd had mirroring opening schedules to begin conference play, as each squad handled Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss. This game is the definition of an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object.
Marshall owns the ninth-best scoring offense in the country, logging 88.2 points per game but also allows 80.4 points per game, which sees them sit at 325th in the country.
WKU, on the other hand, allows just 68.9 points per game, and with the down low duo of Justin Johnson and Dwight Coleby, the Herd will have to work double time to get good looks inside the paint for buckets.
The Herd feature two 20-plus point scorers with Jon Elmore (23.5 points per game) and C.J Burks (20.1 points per game). Ajdin Penava is the main threat down low, averaging 9.7 rebounds per contest to accompany 17.7 points.
This should be one of the best games we see featuring the Tops in the conference schedule, and the fact that Josh Anderson will be available could be a huge momentum swing in the Tops’ favor.
Having said that, I don’t think Anderson will be much of a factor outside of him being able to be out on the floor so other guys can rest. I don’t think he’ll be useless on the floor tonight, I just think we’ll have to wait a couple of games before we see the Anderson we’ve all been waiting to see. I’m ready to be proven wrong, though.
I also wonder what Anderson’s availability does to the starting lineup. Does Stansbury take one of Lamonte Bearden, Darius Thompson or Taveion Hollingsworth out of the lineup? Or does he go with four guards and place Johnson or Coleby on the bench?
It stands more reasonable to put Anderson in instead of perhaps Bearden, as I don’t think Stans would want to start the game without JJ and Coleby. But, we’ll see what happens.
Anyway, Anderson is available and it’s a Marshall game day. Should be a fun one tonight.
