WKU Basketball: Justice Scores Career High As Tops Defeat Herd, 86-72
Justice and McKnight were on fire tonight as the Tops win game one of two in a row against Marshall
Western Kentucky fired on all cylinders tonight thanks to some great shooting as they go on the road to Huntington on senior night to get a big win over Marshall, 86-72.
Cam Justice scored a career high 27 points tonight on 12-of-15 shooting from the field while McKnight also balled out and had 23 points on 11-of-21 shooting.
Marshall had no answer for Jamarion Sharp who had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds with five blocks and a ton of forced shots that won’t show up in the stat sheets. Josh Anderson also had a good night with 16 points and five rebounds.
As a whole, WKU shot 57% from the floor and 41% from deep for the game while Marshall shot 44% for the game.
In the first half, it was actually a close game until the second media timeout and then the Tops were able to go on a run and take the lead thanks to some hot shooting. WKU would shoot 61% in the first half and would outscore the Herd in the paint heavily. The Tops would lead at the half, 43-28.
In the second half, it was more of the same. Marshall were able to get a little bit of a run thanks to a scoring slump from the Tops and got within seven points but WKU would wake up and pull away to spoil the Herd’s senior night and win their first of back to back games, 86-72.
With this win, WKU continue to hold onto the 2nd seed in the East of C-USA. The Tops control their own destiny so if they win again on Saturday they will finish with the two seed before the conference tournament starts next week.
WKU will play the Herd again Saturday for the Tops’ senior night so be sure to pack Diddle and support these seniors in their last home game as Hilltoppers.
Final stats from Huntington:
Good game. I hope Hamilton will be able to come back before the tourney.
