After testing the NBA Draft waters, WKU point guard Lamonte Bearden announced Wednesday morning that he has withdrawn from the draft and will be returning to the Hill.
Bearden was apart of the early enrollees into the draft (I don’t know what the technical term is) and it was reported a couple of weeks ago that he had hired an agent and was going to stay in the draft.
That report, now, seems to be false (at least, the hiring an agent part). Monte was not invited to the NBA Combine, nor did he get any reported team workouts, and when it was reported he was staying in the draft, I was perplexed, but him returning makes much more sense.
Bearden averaged 11.8 points a night in his first year with the Tops a season ago after transferring from Buffalo, and anchored a young guard position that should be even better and more competitive in 2018/19 for WKU with the likes of Taveion Hollingsworth, Josh Anderson and Jake Ohmer coming in for year two, with Jared Savage available after transferring from Austin Peay and an incoming class featuring Dalano Banton and Jeremiah Gambrell.
With the departure of Darius Thompson, this is going to be Monte’s team in the backcourt as he’ll be the eldest statesmen and the quarterback among a group with all the talent in the world.
