Yesterday afternoon, 69 names were announced who were, reportedly, heading to the NBA combine. None of them were Hilltoppers Justin Johnson or Lamonte Bearden.
While I’m honestly not surprised either of them weren’t included, I did think JJ might have had done enough to get a late invite as one of the last guys to receive one (who knows, maybe he was on the First Four Out of combine invites?).
I’m not in the slightest surprised about Monte, and so now we wait for what he’ll do — he’ll have 10 days after the combine to announce if he’ll return to WKU or not for next season.
If I had to assume what the future holds for JJ and Monte, I’d say JJ gets an invite to play for a squad during the Summer League and from there will either be issued a G-League offer or will head overseas, and Monte will return to the Hill (pure speculation, though).
However, Western Kentucky isn’t completely void from the list, as Mitchell Robinson has been invited, who gets the moniker next to his name. Don’t shoot the messenger, please.
The combine will be held in Chicago from May 16-20.
